Dates + status: 2020, Closed
Location(s): Tampa, USA
Scope of Work: Participatory design
To mark World Usability Day 2020, our design team worked with UX designers across 3 continents to help solve a real-world human design challenge for Hope4ATRT. The Tampa Bay nonprofit directs resources and research to families in the fight against ATRT, a rare form of pediatric brain cancer.
The nonprofits’ initial challenge was the structure of their legacy platform. They were wondering how they could better manage and improve the accessibility of resources needed to help families navigate the diagnosis and treatment of a rare cancer.
The task was split into two breakouts, each tackling a design challenge:
Design Challenge #1
We explored the journey of a family facing ATRT, outlined the touchpoints where they need access to resources and research, and how the platform could support them.
Design Challenge #2
We analyzed and optimized the structure of the existing resources on the platform and explored other potential resource streams that the organization had not considered.
Outcomes & Impact
In the end, our team shared their key insights and ideas with the group of UX designers and provided the organization with actionable steps to better serve families facing ATRT, including:
A visual hierarchy for the platform
Type of information and resources needed at each stage of a family's journey
Appropriate platform typography and colors
A proposed platform structure
Ways to build trust in the resources and organization
